За разлика от Трифид, червеното излъчване при  NGC 1579 не се дължи на лъчение от облаци водород, нагрети от ултравиолетовото лъчение на близки горещи звезди. Това оцветяване е резултат от разсейването и лъчението на праха в мъглявината.</span></span></span></span></p>

Ярката звезда, която се вижда в центъра на мъглявината, е толкова гореща, че излъчваната от нея синя светлина има достатъчно енергия, за да йонизира атомите на обкръжаващия я газ. При обратния процес, когато електроните отново се съединяват с протоните, се изпуска светлина в червената област на спектъра. Показаната на горната снимка емисионна мъглявина се намира на 1500 светлинни години в съзвездието Колар и може да се наблюдава в малък телескоп.</span></span></p>
