На 13 декември   Bjørnar G. Hansen, е заснел тази гледка на северно сияние над остров Kvaløya, Норвегия. 30 секундната експозиция е зафиксирала проблясъка на метеор от метеорния поток Джеминиди. И двете събития &#8211; северното сияние и метеорната следа стават високо в атмосферата на височини над 100 км.

През 1996 край Земята прелетя неочаквано ярка комета &#8211; Хиакутаке (на снимката). Под действието на гравитацията на големите планети орбитата на тази комета е така променена, че следващата среща с нея вероятно няма да е преди да са изтекли 100 000 години.

<p>През 1996 край Земята прелетя неочаквано ярка комета &#8211; Хиакутаке (на снимката). Под действието на гравитацията на големите планети орбитата на тази комета е така променена, че следващата среща с нея вероятно няма да е преди да са изтекли 100 000 години.</p>

<p>В съзвездието Персей се намира широкоизвестната двойка разсеяни купове  <a href="http://www.seds.org/messier/xtra/ngc/n0869.html">h and Chi Perseii</a> Те са известни също и като   <a href="http://www.messier45.com/cgi-bin/dsdb/dsb.pl?str=NGC869">NGC    869</a> (дясно) и NGC 884. Двата купа са на разстояние 7000 светлинни години от нас и се състоят от значително по-млади и горещи звезди от Слънцето. Разстоянието между двата купа е само няколко стотин светлинни години, а възрастта на звездите е почти еднаква, което предполага, че двата купа са се родили в една и съща област на звездообразуване.</p>
